Résumé

I obtained my “laurea” degrees (BSc and MSc) in Computer Engineering - cum laude - both from the University of Naples “Federico II” , in Italy, in 2012 and 2016, respectively.
In 2019, I obtained my Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Montpellier , working at the Laboratory of Computer Science, Robotics and Microelectronics of Montpellier (LIRMM) , in France.
In 2013, I was at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (now part of the group Stellantis ) Information Technology, Excellence and Methods S.p.A. (FCA ITEM), Pomigliano d’arco (Naples, Italy), as a software engineer intern.
From October 2019 to January 2020, I was in the United States for a four-months internship at the semiconductor company MediaTek USA Inc , as an R&D engineer.
From February 2020 to September 2021, I was with the Heterogeneous Systems Design team at the Lyon Institute of Nanotechnology (Institut des Nanotechnologies de Lyon, INL), in France, as a post-doctoral researcher.
Since October 2021, I am with the TARAN research group (ex CAIRN) at the Inria research center at Rennes University , in France, first as a post-doctoral researcher and then as Inria permanent researcher (CRCN), since October 2022
My fields of research concern mainly emerging computing paradigms, with a focus on hardware digital design, testing, and reliability. I am an IEEE member.

This research position mainly focuses on studying the Approximate Computing as an emerging paradigm to design the next-generation resource-efficient and resilient hardware accelerators for artificial intelligence. The research methodology is focused on developing automatic approaches to assess the vulnerable parts of the hardware accelerators, as well as the resilient ones. Hence, fault tolerance approaches will be applied to protect the vulnerabilities and the approximate computing approach will be used to exploit the resiliency and gain in terms of energy efficiency.

The main goal of this post-doc position has been to analyze how emerging computing paradigms can be used to design new hardware accelerators under several constraints, i.e., Area, Energy Efficiency, Accuracy, Reliability, Security, etc. The research methodology was focused on analyzing emerging computing paradigms (especially Approximate Computing) as suitable solution for improving the resource efficiency of the target accelerators by carefully reducing their accuracy. Also, the trade-off between accuracy and reliability was studied. The solutions were evaluated at application level. Among others, Convolutional Neural Newtorks (CNNs) were a target application.

Internship in the context of the IESWECAN project , funded by European Union. I participated in the associated training project as a scholarship holder. The goal of this intership was designing and developing a software solution to help Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) engineers identifying and analyzing critical issues in their embedded software design and test phases. FCA is now Stellantis.

Our paper 'Cross-Layer Reliability Evaluation and Efficient Hardening of Large Vision Transformers Models' has been accepted at DAC 2024, that will be held in San Francisco, US, on June 23-27 2024.

Our article 'Syntactic and semantic analysis of temporal assertions to support the approximation of RTL designs' has been has been published in the Journal of Electronic Testing.

Our article 'Impact of High-Level-Synthesis on Reliability of Artificial Neural Network Hardware Accelerators' has been published in IEEE Transactions of Nuclear Science.

Our book chapter 'Automatic Approximation of Computer Systems Through Multi-objective Optimization' has been published in the book 'Design and Applications of Emerging Computer Systems'.
