My research interests include big data management, cloud computing, high-performance computing, data-intensive computing, virtualization, file and storage systems, and P2P computing.

Short bio

Shadi Ibrahim is an Inria research scientist within the Stack team, working on Scalable Big data management and Storage systems. From 2007 to 2011, He was a PhD. student working with Prof. Hai Jin in the Services Computing Technology and System Laboratory (SCTS) at Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST). From November 2011 to September 2013, He was a Post-Doc researcher within the KerData team working on scalable Big Data managements on clouds. Since October 2013, he was hired as a permanent research scientist at Inria. He has several years of experience with academic research at HUST, Inria research center and Microsoft research center in Asia. He has served as a PC member for international conferences in cloud, HPC and parallel and distributed systems (ACM/IEEE SC, IEEE ICPP, IEEE Cluster, ACM/IEEE CCGrid), and as Program co-chair for the 2018 IEEE International Congress on Big Data, the CEBDA 2018 Workshop, the 2017 ICA3PP conference, the 2017 EBDMA Workshop; and the PhD consortium of the 2014 CloudCom conference. His current research interests are in Big data management, Data-Intensive computing, HPC, cloud and Edge computing, virtualization technology, and file and storage systems. His papers are published in prestigious international journals (such as ACM ToPC, IEEE TPDS and FGCS) and proceedings (such as ACM/IEEE SuperComputing, IEEE ICDCS, IEEE IPDPS, IEEE ICPP, IEEE Cluster, and ACM/IEEE CCGrid). He is currently leading the ANR KerStream project and the Apollo connect talent project; and is a member the DISCOVERY Inria Project Lab and JLESC: Joint Laboratory on Extreme-Scale Computing.

Current Projects

  • ANR KerStream (2017 - 2021). I am leading the ANR JCJC KerStream project (Principal Investigator). This project aims to address the limitations of Hadoop when running stream Big Data applications on large-scale clouds and to do a step beyond Hadoop by proposing a new approach, called KER- STREAM, for scalable and resilient stream Big Data processing on clouds. The KerStream project can be seen as the first step towards developing the first French middleware that handles STREAM DATA processing at SCALE. (Budget: 238,000 EUR).
  • Connect Talent Apollo (2017 - 2020). I am leading the Apollo connect talent project (Principal Investigator). The Apollo project (Fast, efficient and privacy-aware Workflow executions in massively distributed Data- centers) is an individual research project “Connect Talent”. It aims to investigate novel scheduling policies and mechanisms for fast, efficient and privacy-aware data-intensive work- flow executions in massively distributed data-centers. (Budget: 201,000 EUR).
  • DISCOVERY Inria Project Lab (2015 - 2019). DISCOVERY is an Inria Project Lab. I am a member of the project and my contribution is investigating new VM deployment mechanisms that exploit locality and improve several aspects including reliability, perfor- mance, energy usage in a distributed infrastructure.
  • JLESC: Joint Laboratory on Extreme-Scale Computing (2016-2018).
    This laboratory is jointly run by Inria, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC), Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) and Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). My contribution: I am working on several sub-projects with the focus on Optimizing and developing solutions to mitigate the I/O interference impacts on HPC application application performance in Next generation Exascale machines and on Resource Management and Scheduling for Data-Intensive HPC Workflows.
